Things to Check Before You Leave on That Road Trip

Don’t hit the road for your annual holiday road trip without bringing your automobile to our auto service shop first. We will inspect the vehicle to make sure it can handle the extended drive. We are going to list below some of the things that we will check as part of our pre-trip inspection.

Battery

We will check the battery to make sure it does not need to be replaced before you leave. Signs that the battery is going bad include difficulty starting your automobile, a leaking battery, or a warped battery. We will also test the battery’s voltage to make sure it is fully charged.

Belts

It’s important to inspect the belts in the engine to make sure none of them are worn. You will end up stranded on the side of the road if one of the belts breaks. This is especially true if your automobile has a timing belt. If the timing belt breaks, you’ll end up with serious engine damage.

Fluids

Another crucial service before you hit the road is a fluid check. We will check all of your fluids to make sure that they are at the proper levels. We will also check the condition of each fluid to ensure it does not need to be replaced. This includes your power steering and brake fluid.

Hoses

Another thing that can sideline your trip is a broken hose. For example, if you end up with a leaking vacuum hose, your vehicle will struggle to produce power. As such, we will check all of the hoses to assess their condition. We will replace any hoses that need it.

Oil

Part of checking the fluids includes changing the motor oil. It is a good idea to replace the oil and filter before you take a road trip, even if the service is not due. This ensures you have plenty of clean oil in the engine to keep it running efficiently. This will boost your fuel economy.

Tires

Finally, you can’t hit the road on a set of bald tires. As such, we will inspect the tires to make sure they do not need to be replaced. In addition, we will check the air pressure and add air if necessary. Make sure to check the air pressure along the trip, as well.

We want to help you have a wonderful road trip, so call us today to schedule a pre-trip inspection. We will do our best to set up a service appointment that works well with your day.
